Lyndell Jacka IEAA-F

Chair

Lyndell is currently Senior Principal, Future Students Insights at The University of Queensland. An experienced market insights professional with over a decade in international education, she has led, shaped, and developed research and data insights at organisations such as IDP Education, Edified, Austrade, and Studyportals. She is passionate about interpreting market data and intelligence to help the sector unlock value and inform evidence-based decision making. Lyndell chairs IEAA’s Data Group, a subcommittee of the Research Committee, and is a member of the Research Committee. 

 

Jonathan Chew IEAA-F

Deputy Chair

Jon is Chief Insights Officer at Navitas, a global education provider with over 100 colleges and campuses in 18 countries, where he leads the organisation’s data-driven culture. Jon is recognised as one of the world’s preeminent market analysts in international education and brings in-depth expertise on global trends in education, built on the rigorous analysis of a wide range of external and in-house datasets. His work is informed by an up-to-the-minute industry perspective developed collaboratively with a global network of stakeholders, policy-makers and experts. Jon was the recipient of the IEAA Excellence Award in Professional Commentary in 2022. Prior to joining Navitas, Jon spent 10 years in management and policy consulting, and began his career as a public-sector economist.

Shirley Chung

Deputy Chair

As Executive Director, Future Students at the University of Adelaide, Shirley is responsible for developing and implementing the University’s strategy for student attraction and growth. Shirley has over 20 years of experience in higher education and previously held leadership positions at the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. Shirley currently serves as a member of the Australian Universities International Directors’ Forum (AUIDF).

Awa Ampofo

Awa is a data analyst with Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) specialising in the field of international education. She is behind MIP (Market Information Package) Orbis, Austrade’s market intelligence, data and analysis platform which empowers Australia's international education and training sector. This platform informs governments, industry bodies, education providers and key stakeholders on the latest insights and trends in international education sector.

Brett Berquist

As Amokapua | Assistant Vice Chancellor Engagement, Brett Berquist leads the University of Canterbury’s (New Zealand) engagement, institutional advancement and strategic partnerships. Employability has been a key focus of his career as an academic and administrator in Europe, the US and Australasia. Brett has developed international internship programs at five institutions establishing best practice guidelines for vetting and managing opportunities through partnerships, alumni and direct contacts. He has previously served on IEAA’s Research Committee and presents frequently on the role of internationalisation in employability at global conferences.

Toshi Kawaguchi IEAA-SF

Toshi Kawaguchi is Director, International Education and Study NSW, at Investment NSW, where he coordinates international education policy for the NSW Government. He joined Study NSW in 2014 after a decade in the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Prime Minister and Cabinet. At DFAT, Toshi was Secretary-General, Australian National Commission for UNESCO, managing Australia’s engagement with the UN on education, science and culture. He was also posted to Solomon Islands and Italy.

Dr Steve Nerlich

Dr Steve Nerlich is the Director of the Australian Government Department of Education’s International Research and Analysis Unit, which is responsible for producing monthly international student enrolment data published through his department and also Austrade. Steve has supported Australian international education for more than a decade by providing this monthly data and a range of other information products. He regularly presents at international education events in Australia and globally. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University, where he investigated the value proposition of encouraging Australian students to study abroad.

Emily O'Callaghan IEAA-SF

Emily is CEO and Co-Founder of the International Education Sustainability Group (ISEG) and is an elected IEAA Board Member. She has worked in international education for over two decades across sector advocacy, research, policy and development. In 2023, Emily co-founded IESG delivering tools to assist institutions to better understand and mitigate their climate impact. Emily is a mentor to early career professionals and also co-founded and developed the IEAA Young Professionals Network.

Dr Davina Potts IEAA-SF

As the Director, Future Students at the University of Melbourne, Davina leads the team responsible for recruitment and selection of students. She also has experience in the delivery of employability and experiential learning programs including learning abroad. Her research interests include international higher education with a particular focus on the intersection of international experiences and employment. Davina has experience in higher education on four continents, including work within universities in the US, Italy and Australia, and as a representative of the Australian Government in Latin America.

Keri Ramirez

Keri is an economist with 20+ years of expertise in international education. As the founder of Studymove in 2007 he has been at the forefront of innovative consultancy projects, specialising in benchmarking, marketing intelligence and data storytelling for Australian and international universities, International education initiatives are supported by Keri's analysis at universities across the world and media outlets, such as the Australian Financial Review and The Australian, frequently feature his analysis of market trends. Keri loves stats and loves telling a story with data!
