IEAA Young Professionals supports up-and-coming staff in international education. The group provides a forum for career development and networking for emerging professionals who are working or seeking work in Australia's international education community.

Join us for an engaging networking evening, co-hosted by the IEAA Scholarships and Fellowships Forum and the IEAA Young Professionals (ACT).

The evening will commence with sector insights from the IEAA CEO, Mr Phil Honeywood, followed by conversations with two guest speakers, Alison White (Tetra Tech International Development) and Brett Blacker (Duolingo). Through short introductions and a Q&A, Alison and Brett will reflect on their individual, often non-linear, career journeys across international education, industry and leadership - exploring what led them to their current roles, how to recognise and maximise opportunities as they arise including the power of connections.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with government sponsors, institutional practitioners and key stakeholders from across the international education sector.

We look forward to seeing you there - don’t forget your business cards!

This event is open to IEAA members and non-IEAA members who are emerging professionals in international education. Attendees from the Scholarships & Fellowships forum do not need to register.

Brett Blacker, IEAA-SF 

Managing Director 

Duolingo 

Brett is the Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at Duolingo, the creator of the Duolingo English Test. Previously, he served as the CEO of English Australia, representing English language colleges nationally. With a wealth of experience, Brett has held pivotal roles such as Director International at the University of Newcastle and Murdoch University, and as General Manager at Allianz Global Assistance. His commitment to international education is underscored by his leadership, including a past presidency at the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA), and active involvement on various state and national Boards, including the National Council for International Education.

Kamila Dixon, IEAA-AF 

Senior Partnerships Coordinator 

University of Canberra 

Kamila is originally from the Czech Republic and has been working in international education since 2017. Her enthusiasm for the sector however began in 2011 during a transformative internship in Romania, sparking a lifelong passion for fostering global connections. Kamila’s professional background spans across the school, VET, and HE sectors, and she is currently the Senior Partnerships Coordinator at the University of Canberra, specialising in transnational education and partnerships engagement. Kamila holds a master’s degree in marketing and business and a graduate diploma in psychological science.

Hon Phil Honeywood, IEAA-SF 

Chief Executive Officer 

International Education Association of Australia 

Phil has been IEAA's Chief Executive Officer since November 2011. Previously, he was a Member of the Victorian State Parliament (1988–2006), Minister for Tertiary Education, Training and Multicultural Affairs (1996–1999) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (2002–2006). Since retiring from politics, Phil worked at Stott’s Business College and Cambridge International College. Phil is the Chairman of the Roundtable of International Education Peak Body CEOs and a member of the Tuition Protection Service Board. Phil is also a Board member of the Bennelong Philanthropic Foundation and the Bangarra Group Board.

Alison White, IEAA-SF 

Program Director, Meryl Williams Fellowship 

Tetra Tech International Development 

Alison White is an IEAA Senior Fellow, Convener of the IEAA Scholarships and Fellowships Network, and a member of the AIEC Program Committee. She has 25 years of experience in higher education, focusing on international education and scholarships. Alison works for Tetra Tech International Development and is Program Director for the Meryl Williams Fellowship (MWF). The MWF is a leadership program for women agricultural scientists, researchers and practitioners across the Indo-Pacific funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). Previous roles in Tetra Tech’s corporate team include Acting Director of Scholarships, overseeing Tetra Tech’s extensive portfolio of scholarship and fellowship programs across South-East Asia and the Pacific, and multiple engagements/secondments as a technical specialist. Alison’s experience in international education/scholarship management extends to multiple roles at The University of Adelaide, over a total period of 12 years. She also worked for the managing contractor of the Defence Cooperation Scholarship Program for eight years as Program Manager, and has undertaken multiple short-term engagements and consultancies.
